Pots, brooms & hurdles from the heathland

The exhibition Pots, brooms & hurdles from the heathland explored the huge network of industries on the East Dorset heathlands, industries which used the coppiced and heathland trees not only to make besom brooms, hurdles, rakes and so on but also as fuel for the local earthenware kilns. The last of the kilns, Cross Roads, closed in 1952 and the exhibition commemmorated this fiftieth anniversary.
